The Journal.

The Huddersfield and District Family History Society Journal, is a quarterly booklet that comes out in January, April, July and October and is posted directly to our members. It is included in the membership of the Society and is produced by a Journal editor and a sub editor.

The Journal is a medium for:

Members to send in letters and articles on family or local history, requests for research help, good sources of information and hints and tips.

The committee to keep our members informed of what is happening in the society, eg, AGM report, changes to the committee or constitution.

Reporting additions to the library, additions to the transcriptions of births, marriages and deaths etc.

To publish talk reviews from our monthly Society meetings, and book reviews.

A new member is listed in the first journal after joining the society, together with their membership number, address and email address. Telephone numbers are never published. New members can also send in for publication, a list of their interests (which families they are researching and during which period). These are usually printed as central pages so that they can be extracted if needed by the reader and kept separately.

If someone joins mid year, they are entitled to receive past journals for that year. New members will also receive a library list, a publications list, details of searches available, and search request forms.

The Journal editor welcomes appropriate letters or articles on any aspect of family or local history, and items with relevance to Kirklees area are particularly welcome. Also welcome are cuttings, hints and tips, useful sources of information, illustrations and photographs. If sending in an illustration or photograph, please send either the original or a scanned image on disc. It is important to state if an article has been submitted to another publication. Items sent can only be returned if an SAE is included. Editing of articles may be necessary, depending on available space. Submissions should be clearly handwritten or typed in MS Works or Word, and submitted on floppy disc or preferably on CD-ROM. If typed please use a plain font such as Arial, Times or Courier, so that it can easily be scanned into the Journal.
